Kochi One Day Itinerary

Kochi is a lovely city to travel and you have many interesting destinations to see. Historical monuments, churches, museums, temples, mosques and parks can be spotted across this city. 

Travelling across the city won’t be much of a problem as it has a well-connected network of rail, roads and water transport. You can plan a one day tour to learn and discover the beauty of this city.

Fort Kochi Beach Address

7:00-8:00am: You can start your tour of Kochi with a sunrise at the Fort Kochi Beach. The calm and peaceful atmosphere of the beach is very refreshing. It has been maintained quite well and you can spot trees along the granite walkways. 

The highlight of this place is the Chinese fishing nets, a nearby lighthouse and the remains of Fort Immanuel.

8:10-9:00 am: Next you can head for a traditional Kerala breakfast from the Hotel Fort House, Kochi. It is not very far and it will approximately take 10 min by walk. The aroma and the taste of Kerala food is quite a treat for all. 

If you like to have something spicy then you should try Puttu (Steamed rice cake) which is served with Kadala (Black Chana). Otherwise can opt for a light dosa that is accompanied with a chutney and sambar. 

Tourists are also very fond of Appam that looks similar to dosa and is normally eaten with vegetable stew. You can complement the breakfast with a tea or a filter coffee which is the specialty of this region.

9:15-10:15 am: Once you are done with breakfast you can explore Fort Kochi which has many historical monuments dating back to the colonial times. From the hotel you can take a cab to reach the Santa Cruz Basilica which an ancient European church built by the Portuguese. 

It is a place of worship so visitors are required to enter the church barefoot and dress code is to be maintained. The Basilica is open on all days except Mondays. Tour guides are not allowed and there is an entry fee.

Autorickshaw ride in Kochi

10:30-11:30 am: St Francis Church is also located very near to Santa Cruz Basilica and you can take a rickshaw to reach this church. The history of this church shows the European powers that ruled over Kochi from 15th-20th century. 

Near the church you have the Dutch cemetery which has tomb stones of Dutch and the British. All the records have been preserved and some of inscriptions written are found to be in old Dutch writing. This cemetery remains closed but on request you can have access to it.

11:45-1:00 pm: From here you can head towards the Mattancherry Palace which is about 10 minutes’ drive from the church. Also known as Dutch Place this great architectural beauty has visitors all across the globe. 

The highlight of the Palace is royal bedroom chamber of the Maharaja of Kochi and various mural paintings that hang here. There is an entry fee and it is open on all days except Fridays. Again outside the palace near the Jew town you have numerous spice shops as well as curio shops where you can do your shopping too.

Taj Malabar at Wellington Island

1:25-2:00pm: Your next destination is Wellington Island that will take about 25 minutes by road. This island is very popular and you have many tourists coming here to get a glimpse of this land. 

There are plenty of restaurants and hotels that cater to the visitors here. Before exploring the island you can treat yourself to a traditional Kerala lunch. Rice served with a number of coconut gravy curries and stir fried vegetables is common lunch for people of Kerala. 

Being a coastal region seafood is also very popular and you have variety of dishes made from lobsters, shrimps, tuna and many more. Chicken biryani, fish biryani and mutton biryani is another popular rice meal that is cooked in a variety of spices.

2:00-3:00 pm: Wellington Island houses the famous Kochi port and the Southern Naval headquarters. You can take a trip to see the Cochin shipyard which is one of the biggest ship repair cum maintenance facility in India. 

Other prominent offices situated here include Cochin Chamber of Commerce and the Government of India Tourist Information Office. You can do shopping from the nearby stores and you can collect some souvenirs of this island too.

3:40-6:00pm: You can hire a taxi from here and move towards the Marine Drive. It will take about 40 minutes to reach here. You can go for a boat cruise where you get to see the whole city set against the picturistic backwaters. 

Cruises start from the high court boat jetty and you can book your tickets well in advanced. The entire view of the Marine Drive, Goshree Bridge, Bolgatty Palace, Cochin shipyard, Chinese fishing nets and anchored ships are the some of the attractions that your likely to see in your boat cruise.

6:00-8:00 pm: After you are done with your boat cruise you can try out local cuisines from nearby restaurants. If you like shopping then you can head towards the Abad Bay Pride Mall near the Marine Drive.

It is covers an area of 200,000 square feet and has numerous shopping outlets for its customers. Be it clothes, cosmetics, electronics, shoes, music you have separate outlets for all. Food court has many fast food joints , restaurants and gives you ample options to choose from. As your days ends you can enjoy the food and check out the snaps of your one day tour of Kochi.
